The Trusty Residence

This real-life project was to provide design direction for a bachelor's first nice apartment. Budget didn't allow for immediate completion; rather, the client opted for instruction, specifications, and a rendered tour.

Scope:

Beginning with an empty space, created a furniture layout for a one-bedroom apartment tailored to the client's requirements and budget. The client wanted to create a welcoming space where he could entertain friends.

Educated client on style options, furniture quality, and material options, created floor plan, compiled inspiration options, documented furniture and accessory specifications, digitally rendered apartment, and created video tour.

Design Concept:

The concept for this client's space is "Harmonious Fusion," which blends his appreciation for his grandmother's art, the vibrancy of afrofuturism, and preference for clean lines and streamlined furnishings. Inspired by his cultural and family history, the design aims to create a space where he can entertain friends, unwind with a book, and immerse himself in music. As an engineer, he values both aesthetic and functionality, favoring clean lines and durable materials that stand the test of time. Rectangular shapes anchor the space while curves serve as design accents. Upholstered seating provides comfort amidst a backdrop of wood, metal, and glass—materials chosen for their strength and longevity. This space embodies comfort, quality, modernity, and a deep connection to culture—a true reflection of the client.

Living Room

The Living Room creates an inviting space to entertain with both a sofa and pair of chairs. Central to these is a ghost table that holds coffee table books and small toys for guests to play with. The credenza houses the client's favorite books as well as unique ceramic objects that inspire wonder and bring texture to the space. Above the credenza hangs a piece made by the client's grandmother, reminding him of family and the importance of their cultural heritage. Multiple lamps bring ambiance to the space, making evenings more comfortable.

Bedroom

The Bedroom is a cozy space for personal relaxation. In addition to the queen bed and nightstands that double as storage, an Eames Lounge Chair sits in the corner to give a serene place to read in the evening or look out the window to watch the world go by. A favorite Afrofuturism print is hung above the bed so that it can be seen from the public spaces. Opposite the bed is an M.C. Escher print that teases the brain and gives it space to wander before drifting off to sleep.
