Design Concept:

The concept for Mr. and Mrs. Garcia-Smith's home in the Texas Hill Country is "Woodshed Heritage." In addition to being a building used to store wood, "woodshed" is also a jazz term meaning "diligent practice" which represents her commitment to achieving excellence in her career. The term "heritage" reflects his emphasis on legacy, history, and culture. Their home will bring to life the spirited tunes that she loves to play by utilizing smooth lines, gentle curves and arches, as well as the strategic use of lines and rays; the shapes of the furnishings will embody the varying tones and styles of jazz itself. Mr. Garcia-Smith’s family heirlooms will bring a sense of history and depth to the spaces while art from Latino and Jamaican artists honor their cultural heritages.

To honor the couple’s cultural heritages, vibrant colors and fabrics will permeate the home. Plants and natural materials will be used throughout to add a bit of nature and bring a connection to the beautiful scenery outdoors. The home will have plenty of space for both dinner parties and overnight guests, as the couple love to entertain and their children's families visit often.
